The Village, population 56,350 with approximately 300 full-time employees, seeks a professional candidate for the position of Building Inspector within the Village's Community Development Department. The position is responsible for supporting functions of the Building Division including: inspection activities; enforcement of building codes; maintaining building records; and customer service. This position requires equivalent of a high school diploma supplemented by technical or college level courses in building construction, electrical, mechanical, or structural engineering, or related areas. Must possess BOCA certifications with regards to One and Two Family Dwelling Inspector, Building Inspector, or Building Plans Examination. Must possess and maintain a current and valid Illinois motor vehicle license. Experience in building or inspection field a must, with municipal experience preferred. This position requires ability to conduct inspections in potentially hazardous areas and in inclement weather. Building Inspectors report to the Building Commissioner. The ideal candidate for this position will have strong construction and code knowledge; interpersonal, written, verbal, and computer skills are a must. Plan review experience a plus. Candidates must be able to read and understand blueprints, resolve complaints, work effectively with building professionals, village staff, and the general public. VILLAGE OF BARRINGTON seeks qualified individuals for part-time Zoning Coordinator positions within the Engineering & Building Department to work 25 hours/week.2 Part Time Positions Available

Position A:

Responsibilities include review construction permit applications and answer customer inquiries regarding zoning compliance; review special use, variation and planned development ordinances for enforcement issues; inspect properties for zoning compliance; assist GIS Coordinator as needed; and various interdepartmental team projects.

Position B:

Responsibilities include provide staff support and attend meetings of Architectural Review Commission for historic preservation; answer customer inquiries regarding zoning compliance; assist with reviewing construction permit applications for zoning compliance; assist with reviewing special use, variation and planned development ordinances for enforcement issues; assist with inspection of properties for zoning compliance; assist GIS Coordinator as needed; and various interdepartmental team projects.

Requirements for both positions include the ability to effectively prioritize multiple projects and to effectively function in a team environment is essential.  Both positions will be required to attend various night meetings.  Experience with zoning and/or historic preservation/architecture preferred.  Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, ability to exercise sound judgment and proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.  Salary range: $21.63-$31.24/hour with modified benefit package which includes pro-rated holiday pay and IMRF participation.
